What is a bad antenna warning or bad antenna quality reading?
The Pro/Pro X devices offer a measurement of return loss on your antenna. This reading can be used to assess positioning of the Pro/Pro X devices, assess if the antenna is damaged and/or has a dirty or damaged connection, and will give a warning if there is an issue with the selected frequency set.
These warnings are often not caused by hardware issues, common causes include:
- VHF frequencies are being used with UHF antenna or UHF frequencies are being used with VHF antenna
- An antenna is placed directly against a human body
- Debris in the SMA connector preventing an adequate connection
Good practices include mounting the Pro/Pro X units as high and unobstructed as feasible, only operating on a properly matched frequency set and antenna, and using different frequencies for up to 3 control and 13 data channels.
